Rivergate Marketing’s History

Rivergate Marketing team background

Tune into the Rivergate Marketing podcast to get the company’s backstory from Georgia Whalen, Founder and President, giving an “About Me” presentation.

Georgia Whalen sat down with the Rivergate Marketing team to give what we call an “About Me” presentation, sharing about her family, her biggest success, her purpose, or WHY as we call it. She first got the idea to have the team share “About Me” presentations from her local business group, Vistage, where it’s customary for new members to present about themselves and their business.

In this episode, Georgia recounts details of how Rivergate Marketing got its start when sister and brother helped each other in the 2008-2009 recession.

As she was trying to return to work after being a full-time stay-at-home mother for 11 years, Georgia couldn’t find a position at her previous major companies due to hiring freezes. And she was getting lost in sea of competition from layoffs.

She turned to her brother, who was facing problems of his own at his engineering company. He had 40 employees and had never had to lay anybody off, he didn’t want to lay anyone off.

“I’m like, Sam, I used to be pretty good at sales and marketing and I can’t find a job because nobody wants to take a chance on a stay-at-home mom. Why don’t you let me come to work for you and I’ll try and do marketing for you,” said Georgia.

And so, Rivergate Marketing was founded in 2009.

“By 2016, we had nearly doubled. Doubled our revenue, and we hired our second employee, Christine,” explained Georgia.

Georgia tells listeners about how Rivergate weathered the pandemic by hosting a company retreat and creating a strategy called the “90 day plan” to take the business to the next level.

“Our vision is to unite engineering companies solving complex automation challenges with the manufacturers and industrial customers who can benefit from their services to build a more nimble and competitive industrial sector, benefiting our economy and providing employment opportunities for Americans.”
